Good afternoon, Woodson Wave Families, this is Liz Berry with some updates for the coming week.  Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Week, Mrs. Brooke Thomas.  Mrs. Thomas works in PreK3 with our youngest students.  She returned in November and was able to quickly establish relationships with the students and staff she works with.  She is quick to jump in and help in any way possible.  Thank you for all you do for the students at WES!!!!

Congratulations to our Students of the Week, James Crockett in PreK3 and Tyler Carey in 5th Grade.  James is very kind and considerate to his peers and teachers in class.  He's always on task at any given time of the day, and he is very dedicated to his learning.  Tyler is a very kind hearted young man who shows all of his friends what the definition of kindness means. He greets them with a morning hug or high five when they've succeeded. He also puts forth a new-found effort that is showing in his academic performance. We are proud of you, James and Tyler!

Also, a huge celebration and shout out to our WES Spelling Bee Winners; Connor Millard was the overall winner and Brayden Butler was our runner up.  Congratulations to these two young gentleman.  They will go on to represent our school at the Spelling Bee at UMES in the beginning of March.  Boys, we are so proud of your achievement!  We wish you luck as you continue.

Mrs. Laird has shared that we have almost doubled the number of students working above or at grade level in Happy Numbers, based on growth from beginning of the year to the mid-year.  For Dreambox math we have gone from having 0% of students working above grade level to now 27% of students working above grade level.  This is fabulous news about our growth in math.

School is closed Monday, January 19th due to observance of President’s Day.  We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

Thursday, February 22nd we will have Coffee and Curriculum sessions for our 3rd-5th Grades.  3rd will be at 9:00 am, 5th Grade will be at 10:15 am, and 4th Grade will be at 2:00 pm.  All Coffee & Curriculum sessions will be located in the cafeteria.  Please sign up in advance to attend.  Please make sure to bring your driver’s license or government ID to run through our Navigate 360 System.

Friday, February 23rd will be a Woodson Spirit Day, where students can wear their Woodson Spirit Shirt or House Shirt with uniform bottoms only.

Just a reminder, students are not permitted to bring carbonated beverages to school.  This is stated in our Student Handbook on page 6 that was sent home in the beginning of the year.  Please do not send any carbonated beverages with your children to school.  Thank you for your understanding.

Also, during casual days when students are permitted to wear jeans, they cannot have any rips, holes, shreds, or holes with patches behind them even if they were purchased that way.  Students are not permitted to wear any hooded apparel during the school day for a casual or uniform day. Students may not wear any tops that expose their bellies, such as a crop top or mid-drift top.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
