Good afternoon this is Liz Berry with some updates for the week. Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Week Mrs. Cindy Gerald. Every day Mrs. Gerald and her staff provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches for every student in the school, as well as serving extras such as fresh fruit, ice cream and chips. Mrs. Gerald helps out at other times when needed. One example is that Mrs. Gerald and her ladies cooked and individually wrapped the hot dogs to be sold during the bazaar just before winter break. We appreciate Mrs. Gerald and her team!
Congratulations to our Students of the Week, Ryleigh Brown in 2nd grade as well as Gannicus Brophy, Grace Dunivan, and Chloe Thornton in 5th grade. Ryleigh is a sweet and caring student as well as a good friend to her peers. Gannicus, Grace, and Chloe show consistent willingness to volunteer with classroom clean-up, which showcases their commendable dedication and teamwork. We are proud of you.
Our 5th graders, Miguel Hernandez Rojas, Nicolas Villafuerte Vieyra, and Kevin Munoz-Garcia are the overall county-wide GT Challenge winners. This is a huge accomplishment and we celebrate your winning! Way to represent WES!
In addition, congratulations goes out to our 3rd grades Temperance Cooper and Kaden Millard for winning a poster contest for the Maryland Council of Economics! This is fabulous news!
All 4th graders will start state testing Monday morning at 9am and will test a session or 2 each day this week finishing up on Monday, April 22nd. Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep each night and arrives at school on time each day. Be sure to bring your laptop back to school fully charged Monday morning and don’t forget to bring the charging cord. We want to wish all of our students good luck with their testing.
Please make sure that your child has turned in their work from the asynchronous work day this past Friday, April 12th. This counts as their attendance.
Tuesday, April 16th will be the monthly Board Meeting for anyone who wishes to attend. The open session begins at 6:00 pm at the SCPS Board of Education.
Thursday, April 18th will be a paid casual day fundraiser for the Lower Shore Autism Community. Students will need to pay $1.00 and staff pay $2.00 to participate in this worthy cause. Students in 2nd grade will experience the Assateague Trees in Schools program, where visitors will visit classes and teach students about trees and their contribution to the environment.
Also, on Thursday the Judy Center will be hosting an Earth Night for students and their families in PreK-3 through Kindergarten. There will be activities that include, making a bee house, a pollination activity, helping to plant in the school garden, and meet experts who work in the environment such as the Coast Guard, a park ranger, a farmer, and a science teacher. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
