Good afternoon this is Liz Berry with some updates for this week.  Celebrating our amazing Staff Member of the Week; Congratulations to Ms. Lisa Dize. She is a passionate advocate for students and families. She consistently challenges all the students to be their best.  She has developed strong, positive relationships with her students and families. Ms. Dize works hard to enable all students to recognize and embrace their individual strengths and interests. She consistently tailors individualized instruction to meet students’ needs and is a “go to” resource for others. Ms. Dize is an integral part to WES.  WAY TO GO Ms. Dize!!!

Our Students of the Week are Cade Jones in Kindergarten and Unique Willey in 2nd Grade.  Cade is a star student!  He is a friend to everyone he meets and always gives his all in school.  Unique is sweet and kind.  She works hard everyday and always shows the Woodson Way.  Congratulations to Cade and Unique; we are very proud of you!!!

Congratulations to our Winners of the American Legion Essay with 1st Place Overall being Miguel Hernandez and 1st Place Honorable Mention is Madison Cook.  2nd Place Overall is Ka’Brayah Bourckel, with 2nd Place Honorable Mention going to Bryanna Munoz-Dominguez.  3rd Place Overall is Kevin Munoz-Garcia and 3rd Place Honorable Mention going to Kenzleigh Marvel.  The writing prompt was “What does Freedom mean to me?”.  Congratulations to all of our winners on having your writing pieces selected and winning this prestigious award! WES is proud of you!!!

Our After School Club ended this Monday, April 29th.  Ms. Fay Sterling and the After School Club staff hopes that children who attended were able to enjoy and learn from the club they attended.

This Friday, May 3rd, students in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Third Grades will travel to see the Wizard of Oz Ballet at Wicomico High School.  Students need to arrive at school starting at 8:15 am.  Busses will leave at 8:30 am sharp.  The bus will not be able to wait for anyone.  Students may wear “Sunday Best” causal or school uniform that are attending the trip.  When students return, there will be a pizza party.    If your child doesn’t like pizza, you ae able to send a packed lunch for them.

Families with children Birth through Kindergarten, Come and Join SCPS for the 1st annual Somerset County School Readiness Fair.  Enjoy an evening of fun family activities, information on preparing your child for school, PK registration, community information, great giveaways and a dinner provided by Mission BBQ.  This will take place on Friday, May 10th at Somerset Intermediate School from 4:30-7:00 pm.  We hope to see you there.

Looking ahead, just a reminder schools will be closed on Tuesday, May 14th due to the Primary Election.
