Good evening, Woodson Waves, this is Liz Berry with some updates for the coming week. Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Week, Mrs. Allison Grove. Mrs. Grove teaches 5th grade at WES. Mrs. Grove is such a positive role model for fifth grade. She is empathetic and engaged in the lives and interests of her students, which further motivates them to work hard and do their best. She also provides consistent and steady leadership for the fifth-grade team. Thanks for all you do, Mrs. Grove!
Also, a huge shout out goes to our Students of the Week, Nova Davis in PreK-3 and Citlalli Tellez Garcia in 2nd Grade. Nova is a hard worker who always tries her best and strives to learn new things every day! She is very kind to her peers and teachers, and can be spotted at any moment throughout the day following the Woodson way! Citlalli is a hard worker and a great friend to her classmates. She helps out others and listens well to her teachers. Way to go, Citlalli!
We hope that everyone enjoyed this Monday off, which is in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day. School resumes tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21st.
Please pay attention to the weather and school closures. In the event we have to be closed for inclement weather we will be enacting the SCPS Virtual Plan. This plan is located on the county website. There has been information posted regarding the virtual plan, please make sure to take a glance at it, so you may be informed.
We will be hosting a Conscious Discipline Parent Night in connection with the Judy Center on Wednesday evening, from 5:30-6:30 pm. All are welcome. Find ways to connect with your children, encourage them, be intentional with words, and see conflict as a teaching opportunity.
This week, please be on the look out for our Title I Parent Survey to go home for parent input on our spending. This is part of our federal requirements. Thank you in advance for your participation.
Miss Jill Price will be administering the WIDA Access test this week for our EL students. We wish them all the best on their assessment this week.
Our Teacher of the Year campaign is underway. There are nomination forms going home and there is an electronic form to nominate an amazing WES teacher to be the next TOY.
Some reminders as we look ahead, please keep in mind Thursday, January 30th is an early dismissal day and students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm. Also, Friday January 31st will be a professional day for teachers as it is the change in semester and schools will be closed for students.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message and have a good evening.
