Good afternoon, Woodson Wave Families, this is Liz Berry with some updates for the coming week.  Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Week, Ms. Bridgett Hancock.  Ms. Hancock came to us just a short time ago, and has done an excellent job making connections with her students.  She works hard to make learning engaging, and is a great addition to our staff here at Woodson Elementary.

Congratulations and a big shout out to our Students of the Week, OakLynn Balcerak in PreK-3 and DeQuan Fields in 2nd Grade.  OakLynn is a kind friend to all and can always be seen following the Woodson Way, whether she’s in the hall, the classroom, or the cafeteria.  She always tries her best and never gives up.  De’Quan is a rockstar and on the ball.  His teacher can count on him to be a rockstar all day long!  We are so very proud of both OakLynn and De’Quan!!!!

Please don’t forget to adjust your clocks for Daylight savings time as we have moved our clocks ahead by an hour, which means Spring is just around the corner!

Attendance Matters; please make sure your child attends school on a daily basis.  There is a lot that a student misses when they are not at school.  According to our attendance policy, students receive letters when they miss 3 days, 5 days, and 8 days.  Parents can use up to 10 parent notes, which doesn’t necessarily excuse the absence, but provides documentation.  If you have received an attendance letter and haven’t written parent notes, you can do so.  Medical notes can provide an excuse when coming from and signed off by a physician.

We will kick off a March Madness Attendance Incentive beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 10th to run through Thursday, April 10th.  We will have a competition and select two lower elementary classes from PreK-3 through 1st grade and two upper elementary classes from 2nd grade through 5th grade.  The four classes with the highest rate of attendance over the course of the next month will get a pizza party.  Good luck and remember you have to be in school to help your class win!

Tuesday, March 11th is Spring Pictures and Class pictures.  Students must wear their uniform this time for pictures.  Also, the Joe Corbi fundraiser will be delivered this Tuesday.  There will be no band lessons on Tuesday, March 11th due to the Joe Corbi’s delivery.

Our 5th graders will be taking MISA testing this week beginning Wednesday through Friday which is the state science test.  We wish them well.  Please make sure your child has proper rest the night before and get them to school on time, so they can enjoy a school breakfast.

Thursday, March 13th will be hosting a casual day fundraiser for a Woodson Family in need.  Staff will need to pay $2.00 and students pay $1.00 if they wish to participate.  To show support for this special family dear to our hearts, we are asking anyone participating to wear pink in solidarity to show our support as a Woodson School family.  As always, thank you to everyone who participates in these fundraisers.

This Friday, March 14th will be an early dismissal day for students beginning at 12:30 pm.  Students in PreK3-1st grade will be attending an assembly with Mr. B during the day.  Please join us at SCTHS that evening from 5-7:00 pm for anyone who like to join our Early Childhood Readiness Fair.  This is also our kick off date for students to register for PreK and Kindergarten.

Also, on Friday, Quarter 3 Midterms will be issued, so please be on the lookout and check your child’s bookbag for them.

Looking ahead to Monday, March 17th, students may participate in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green.  This will be a free casual day for all.  Please ensure your child follows the casual day guidelines.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and enjoy the rest of your evening!
